warning dialog box with message "(40503) A call to an OLE server has failed, or a runtime error occurred within the OLE server itself" pops up in DataStage Designer. OLE Automation server exception 40503 Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) After the InfoSphere Information Server client was reinstalled on a Windows machine, a warning dialog box appeared with the following message after opening a stage property window in InfoSphere DataStage Designer: "(40503) A call to an OLE server has failed, or a runtime error occurred within the OLE server itself." Symptom The problem happens only on some client PCs; other PCs connecting to the same Information Server work fine. In the problem PC, the problem happens always regardless of the system resources available. Cause Several in-process automation servers are used for InfoSphere DataStage clients like DataStage Designer. "(40503) A call to an OLE server has failed, or a runtime error occurred within the OLE server itself." error means that an exception, e.g. COleException or COleDispatchException, was raised in invoking a method of an OLE Automation server. The exception can occur due to many reasons, to name a few programming error like passing invalid argument to the method. unexpected conditions outside of the program's control, such as low memory or I/O error. The remnants of earlier InfoSphere DataStage client installations also can cause an unexpected condition for the Automation servers. Resolving the problem First, try rebooting the machine to see if that resolves the problem. It might be possible the installer required a reboot to complete the installation before the product can actually be used. With release 8.5 FixPack 2 and above, the Multi-Client Manager (MCM) utility can be used to perform a complete re-registration of the active client installation, even if only one installation is installed on the machine. This can be used to re-register all deployed components, and saves having to re-install

Windows. DataStage clients use ActiveX (COM objects). Somehow, somewhere, in accessing the OLE http://www.dsxchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=93099&sid=3f1d6f61ac0478aacf274097f069c308 server that exposes the objects, something has failed. These are typically rare/intermittent, and really difficult to track down. Re-establishing the connection to the OLE server is usually sufficient to make the problem go away. The only preventative measure is perfectly-written code. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chandru Babu" Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 20:32:09 +0700 To: "firstname.lastname@example.org" Subject: A CALL TO AN OLE SERVER HAS FAILED Hi all, † IS SOME ONE CAME THRU THE ERROR (40503) A CALL TO AN OLE SERVER HAS FAILED OR A RUNTIME ERROR OCCURRED WITH IN OLE SERVER ITSELF when i open again the server it is ok,is there any one encountered this error, what is the best solution thanking all Linga ____________________________________________________ † IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup CareerBuilder.com has over 400,000 jobs. A Windows error is an error that happens when an unexpected condition occurs or when a desired operation has failed. When you have an error in Windows, it may be critical and cause your programs to freeze and crash or it may be seemingly harmless yet annoying.
A stop error screen or bug check screen, commonly called a blue screen of death (also known as a BSoD, bluescreen), is caused by a fatal system error and is the error screen displayed by the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems upon encountering a critical error, of a non-recoverable nature, that causes the system to "crash".
One of the biggest causes of DLL's becoming corrupt/damaged is the practice of constantly installing and uninstalling programs. This often means that DLL's will get overwritten by newer versions when a new program is installed, for example. This causes problems for those applications and programs that still need the old version to operate. Thus, the program begins to malfunction and crash.
Computer hanging or freezing occurs when either a program or the whole system ceases to respond to inputs. In the most commonly encountered scenario, a program freezes and all windows belonging to the frozen program become static. Almost always, the only way to recover from a system freeze is to reboot the machine, usually by power cycling with an on/off or reset button.
Once your computer has been infected with a virus, it's no longer the same. After removing it with your anti-virus software, you're often left with lingering side-effects. Technically, your computer might no longer be infected, but that doesn't mean it's error-free. Even simply removing a virus can actually harm your system.
