on 13 Dec. 2005 / Last Updated on 13 Dec. 2005] In my previous article we had a closer look at the new Sender ID feature included in Exchange 2003 SP2, in this article I’ll show you how to configure and take database size limit in gb advantage of the new database size limit increase in Exchange 2003 SP2. Introduction One of the really interesting changes that comes with Exchange 2003 SP2 is the new database size limit increase in the Exchange 2003 Standard Edition. As most of you know the Standard edition of previous Exchange versions has a hard-coded limit of 16GB, finally this has changed with Exchange 2003 SP2; the default limit per database is now 18GB but can be set http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Exchange&ProdVer=6.5.7638.0&EvtID=9690&EvtSrc=MSExchangeIS+Mailbox+Store as high as to 75GB! Yes you heard me right. Finally Microsoft reacts to years of yielding from frustrated Exchange Administrators (if you ask me this was something that should have been changed back when Exchange 5.5 SP4 was released). Come on, when you think about it 16GB is the limit on our MP3 player’s these days, and should definitely not be a limit to fight against on our Exchange Server(s). So if Exchange 2003 Standard http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2003/management-administration/Explaining-Database-size-limit-changes-Exchange-2003-Service-Pack-2.html Edition with SP2 applied can be configured as high as to 75GB, why is the default limit 18GB? Well try to think about it! Most organizations running Exchange 2003 Standard Edition have provisioned their server’s current database partition(s) for 16GB databases, so configuring the database with, for example, a 50 GB limit could make a server run out of disk space. Manipulating the Database Size Limit Let me be honest and say it’s a bit cumbersome to manipulate the database size limit, as you’ll need to do so via registry keys (nope as some of you might have hoped for this cannot be done via the Exchange System Manager). You can configure a logical database size (logical size means the physical size of the .EDB and .STM files minus the logical free space aka white space in each) limit for each Exchange database by creating a DWORD registry key named “Database Size Limit in GB”. This key should be created under the following location for the mailbox database and public folder database respectively: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\

One issue in particular I've noticed is event id 9690 within event viewer: Exchange store 'First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (servername)': The logical size of this database (the logical size equals the physical size of the .edb file and the .stm file minus the logical free space in each) is 60 GB. This database size has exceeded the size limit of 60 GB. This seems to be causing issues every few weeks where users have database size limit problems with Outlook not connecting to the Exchange server (presumably because the information store is stopping?) I'd like to of course remedy this problem asap and was wondering if you could offer any advice on the recommended way to move forward? Thanks in advance. I adjusted the size limit from 60GB to 75GB earlier on (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912375)which will take care of the immediate problem. With regards to the actual size of the mailbox what are the most efficient ways of reducing it's size? There are three users in particular whose individual mailboxes are 18gb, 13gb and 11gb in size respectfully. Other users are around the 4gb-6gb size. A Windows error is an error that happens when an unexpected condition occurs or when a desired operation has failed. When you have an error in Windows, it may be critical and cause your programs to freeze and crash or it may be seemingly harmless yet annoying.
A stop error screen or bug check screen, commonly called a blue screen of death (also known as a BSoD, bluescreen), is caused by a fatal system error and is the error screen displayed by the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems upon encountering a critical error, of a non-recoverable nature, that causes the system to "crash".
One of the biggest causes of DLL's becoming corrupt/damaged is the practice of constantly installing and uninstalling programs. This often means that DLL's will get overwritten by newer versions when a new program is installed, for example. This causes problems for those applications and programs that still need the old version to operate. Thus, the program begins to malfunction and crash.
Computer hanging or freezing occurs when either a program or the whole system ceases to respond to inputs. In the most commonly encountered scenario, a program freezes and all windows belonging to the frozen program become static. Almost always, the only way to recover from a system freeze is to reboot the machine, usually by power cycling with an on/off or reset button.
Once your computer has been infected with a virus, it's no longer the same. After removing it with your anti-virus software, you're often left with lingering side-effects. Technically, your computer might no longer be infected, but that doesn't mean it's error-free. Even simply removing a virus can actually harm your system.
Reimage repairs and replaces all critical Windows system files needed to run and restart correctly, without harming your user data. Reimage also restores compromised system settings and registry values to their default Microsoft settings. You may always return your system to its pre-repair condition.
